Rowville Health illuminated signage powered and automated for evening visibility

Run dedicated cabling from the main switchboard to the facade, provide safe power to each light box, and automate the signs with a 24 hour timer that keeps time after outages. That is the approach we delivered at Rowville Health near the Stud Road and Kelletts Road intersection.

The client need

Rowville Health wanted the clinic to stand out after sunset and be easy to spot from nearby arterial roads. Evening arrivals were finding the building hard to pick out. Illuminated signage was selected to improve visibility and create a more welcoming entry for late appointments.

The plan

JPG Tech was engaged to supply and install the electrical infrastructure for the new signage. The scope covered cabling, power, control, and commissioning. We mapped the cable path from the rear switchboard through public areas and scheduled delivery outside normal hours to keep the clinic running as usual.

Scope of work

  • Supply and install new cabling from the main switchboard to the front facade.
  • Connect power to three illuminated light box signs.
  • Install a 24 hour timer with a backup battery at the switchboard.
  • Program the timer for the agreed operating hours and provide a simple handover.

Execution

Cabling routes passed through the waiting area, reception, and main hallways, so the team worked after hours. This kept access clear and avoided noise during the day. The timer was set up and tested, including a quick power cut simulation to confirm the battery maintained accurate time. Final checks were done at dusk to ensure even illumination and clear legibility from approaching roads.

Outcome

The new light boxes brighten the front facade and make the clinic easy to identify at night. The timer switches the signs on and off automatically, so reception does not need to manage them. Staff reported no interruptions during the works, and the client has expressed interest in powering the remaining three signs in a future stage.

What is an illuminated light box?

A light box is a slim cabinet with internal lighting and a translucent face. It delivers even light and clear graphics for brand or wayfinding. For reliable operation, it should be powered on a dedicated circuit with clear labelling and a simple control method such as a timer.

Controls and variants

For this project we used a 24 hour timer with a backup battery so the schedule stays correct after brief outages. Other sites may prefer a photoelectric sensor that responds to ambient light, or a combined approach with a manual override. The best option depends on trading hours, local lighting conditions, and neighbourhood amenity.

Maintenance and handover

The clinic received a short guide covering the circuit label, the timer location, and how to request schedule changes. A quick annual check is usually enough to confirm settings and replace the timer battery when due. Future stages can be added cleanly because the power and control approach is already defined.

Planning illuminated signage?

JPG Tech can assess cable paths, power needs, and control options, then schedule works to suit clinic hours. If you are planning new light boxes or an upgrade, we can help you choose a simple setup that stays accurate and requires very little attention.

FAQs

Do illuminated signs need their own circuit?

Yes. A dedicated, clearly labelled circuit with an isolation point keeps maintenance safe and avoids nuisance tripping on shared loads. It also makes future additions simpler if capacity is planned at the board.

Should we use a timer or a photoelectric sensor?

Timers give predictable on and off times that match clinic hours. Dusk sensors follow ambient light through the night

Can you install after hours so we do not disrupt patients?

Yes. We schedule works outside clinic hours when cable routes pass through reception or corridors. That is how we delivered the Rowville Health project, with access kept clear and no noise during opening times.

What maintenance is required on the control system?

Plan a quick annual check. Confirm the timer schedule, test the battery backup so timekeeping is retained after an outage, and verify labels and isolation points. LED modules and drivers follow the sign maker’s service intervals, which we note in the handover.
